The title of this tea cosy feels clumsy, so it might change, but what I want to design is one of the three kings or wise men that were there at the Nativity. I thought I'd have the wise man riding on a camel.
I do love a Nativity tea cosy at Christmas. I'm old fashioned and I enjoy the true meaning of the festive period. Don't get me wrong, I do love Santa, Christmas trees and all that Victorian stuff too, but it's a time to remember the birth of Jesus. As far as the Nativity goes, I think that the three kings are a bit overlooked. I think people mainly focus on Mary, Joseph, Jesus and the angels, so I am going to create a well deserved knitted tribute to the three kings of Orient who, with blind faith, followed the star to witness the birth of Jesus.
The main part of the cosy is going to be the camel. The camel will be sitting down, they do this so you can get on and off them easily. I need to research more about what their legs do when they get down, I don't think that you can see well in photos.
I haven't drawn the teapots spout of handle, that will have to come out of the sides of the camel.
Then on top I shall have the King. He will be sat on the camels back in his finery folding a jar or either frankincense or myrrh.
What will be nice is that both camels and the wise man himself can be colourful and I can use bright colours and lots of tasselly bits.
The only issues I foresee is the blanket on the camels back and the camel's neck. The issue with the blanket is that it will hang down right where the spout of handle opening will be, so it might not be a straightforward blanket. And the neck may be an issue because it's thin and it has to hold the head elevated. That's quiet a lot of weight on a skinny neck, and I don't want my camel to look as if he's fallen asleep.
