This is going to be such a fun and quirky tea cosy and there are no prizes for guessing the song that I have stuck in my head right now.
There's nothing like a hot refreshing cup of hot tea to make your chameleon calmer. Sorry just a bad joke there. I'll stop.
I just love chameleons, they are cute strangle little creatures. I love that their eyes are independent - how amazing must that be? And I love their little 'hands'; they look like they have mittens on, and the colours are amazing, and especially for knitting. It means you can stash bust in any old colours and it will still look right, because you just can't be wrong. Fab-u-lous!
One slight problem... teapots are round and chameleons are long and skinny. So I have slimmed the teapot down by making the lower part of the tea cosy brown, I was thinking log, then the upper part is chameleon.
For the skin patterns I want to use stripes rather than intarsia. I know that some people are put off by working intarsia or Fare Isle designs, so I thought if I stuck with stripes, he would be a lot less scary to knit. But I have drawn the stripes going in two directions, so I shall have to find a way to best create that.
I love that little fin on his head, it gives him a lot of character. I'm not a chameleon expert, but I guess the colours and the fin going up are either a courtship thing or defence. I'd like to think that he's whispering sentimental, sweet nothings.
