Looking for something to make your brew a bit spookier this Halloween? A teatime with spirits maybe? Well maybe the Haunted House tea cosy will be your cup of tea.
I feel like I have been researching this tea cosy from childhood with all those Scooby-doo episodes I must have watched. More recently I have been researching haunted houses, not in person, that would be too hair-raising - No I have been searching thought photos on Google and I have come to some conclusions.
1) A haunted house tends to be a big house, stately home looking, with multiple gable ends. On the roof top there tends to be finials.
2) There is nearly always a tower or turret and they are generally round.
3) There has to be steps going up to the house. Is this to make it look big and imposing, or just to be a trip hazard when you are fleeing for your life perhaps?
4) There also always seems to be a veranda, no idea why this adds to the spookiness, but it seems to be a thing.
5) The last observation and probably the most strange of all is that there has to be lots of windows, and light needs to be emitting from every window. Now I don't know about you, but if lights are all blazing, I don't feel very scared, so it seems peculiar that a haunted house needs all it's lights on. Maybe it's the thought of the electric bill that is so terrifying?
Oh and the most obviously must have for a haunted house is a ghost. Well I think for a house to be considered a haunted house, it must need a few ghosts - otherwise it's just a house with a ghost right? So I thought I'd have a few Casper style ghosts hanging around my haunted house with the long tails. I guess the ghosts can be made to look friendly or terrifying, depending on the look you're going for.
I do think that this tea cosy is a lot of work. I shall try to limit the add on parts, and knit as much as possible to the main cosy as I'm knitting. I think the other tricky part of the cosy is knitting in black, it's not a great colour to work with, it's so demanding on your eyes.
