Tis the season to knit cosies - Fa la la la la, la la la la!
Yes, indeed it's that time of year again when all the lovely Christmas songs get stuck in my head whilst I settle down to knit Christmassy tea cosies.
I thought that an ice skater would make such a lovely tea cosy. Gracefully gliding along on one foot with her other foot in the ice skate boot raised behind her. But professional ice skaters these days don't wear very much and that would be difficult to re-create on a teapot, so this ice skater is a Victorian, in a wonderful big skirt.
The fact that she's ice skating makes it feel quite wintery for me, and you do have to wrap up when you go skating, to shield you from bumps as much as to keep you warm. I thought this lady might feel more Christmassy if her outfit had a Santa theme - red and edged with fluffy fluff. And I thought she'd look lovely with a Santa hat on. Maybe she also needs some sprigs of holly, the Victorians loved to decorate at Christmas time with holly and other evergreens.
The problems that I foresee with this design is that I need her skirt to be raised at the back with her foot sticking out, so the raised dress is an issue and the support for the skating boot is also an issue, I don't want it all droopy. Also I need to make sure that the blade on the boot stays straight.
I'm not sure what she's doing with her hands, but I feel like they need to have some purpose. I'm not sure what yet. Maybe she will let me know as I knit her.
I do love preparing for Christmas and I love Christmas knitting!
