Dustman Tea Cosy
I have been inspired by frontline workers and that fabulous song by Lonnie Donegan - My Old Man's a Dustman.
What is amazing about that song by Lonnie Donegan that was sang back in 1961 is that it says he's going to sing a story about an unsung hero, and today the refuse collectors are still unsung heroes.
Now he could be knitted in bright orange, but I thought I'd dress my dustbin man before health and safety kicked in; and I have given him blue 'cor blimey trousers'. I thought I'd also give him a hat to keep the dust from going in his hair.
On the front of the cosy I have given him a couple of big old hobnail boots or daisy roots as dustmen like to call them. You would need big boots with all that walking they have to do.
Because he's an old school rubbish collector, he's got an old tin bin that they used to carry on their back. Blimey they must have been strong!
I think what is nice is that most people probably know someone who was or is a binman, and they have been so marvellous during the pandemic that I thought a little tea cosy tribute to them was in order. And I bet waste operatives love a hot cup of tea after that heroic but smelly job that they do.
I don't see any issues with the binman tea cosy. I think that the flat cap might be a bit tricky. But I think on the whole he will be an enjoyable tea cosy to create. But he has got that song stuck in my head!
