The nights are drawing in and my mind has turned to Halloween. I love this holiday season, I love the fun and silliness of it. It's all about dressing up and looking spooky in a tongue in cheek kind of way. And this year I thought I would dress up a teapot as Count Dracula.
When I think of Count Dracula I suppose I picture Christopher Lee, tall dark and sinister. But I also think of capes, all Dracula's have a cape. They love to hide their victim with the cap before they drink their blood and I can appreciate wanting to enjoy a meal in piece, but capes aren't very inconspicuous are they?
But all that aside, my design has a cape, with a tall standing collar as tradition dictates. I thought the inside of the collar should be purple, because that's a nice spooky kind of colour. I have got him so that he has the cape over his arm in that classic 'sneaking about hidden by a cape' look that they do.
I have given Dracula a love heart hairline. I always think this is very vampirey. Maybe that's a Christopher Lee thing too.
Vampires do pride themselves on being smart and well dressed so I have given him a bow tie.
I don't know if he will have red eyes yet or not. I think of the idea of red eyes when I draw them, but I shall have to see how this translates into knitting.
I shall be knitting him in Stylecraft Special DK yarn, it a great yarn to use and not too pricey. I think for most people Stylecraft easy to find in the shops and online.
I'm going to enjoy this tea cosy with all it's clichés, the only issue I foresee is knitting in black. It's a terrible colour to work with, especially in false light.
