Unveiling the Spinning Jenny Tea Cosy – a tribute to the timeless innovation of the industrial revolution, now wrapped in yarn.
As a knitter, it's fascinating to reflect on how things used to be, with wool spun by hand. I love that nostalgic photo of an elderly woman at her spinning wheel, creating yarn. My tea cosy draws inspiration from the women of that era, a time before acrylic yarns and electricity.
My spinning lady is by her spinning Jenny, ready to spin yarn that might become socks or perhaps a cosy tea cosy! She is dressed in earthy yet cheerful tones of orange and light purple. To keep her skirt clean, she wears an apron – a necessity in a time with no washing machines and limited clothing options.
The head will feature anti-wobble technology for stability.
The spinning wheel will be knitted in parts, assembled, and positioned in front of her. Currently, her head remains uncovered, but I might add a bonnet as the design evolves.
Although I foresee the spinning Jenny requiring substantial sewing due to its many parts, including the intricate spoked wheel, I'll explore ways to simplify this process through knitting. I'm excited to bring this project to life!
