Dick Van Dyke eat your heart out! There's a new chimney sweep in town and he's cleaning up!
I was asked if I'd design a Lucky Chimney Sweep tea cosy and to be honest I had already thought about it. I was brought up on Mary Poppins and I still watch it every Christmas when it's on, I just love the rooftops dance when Mary powers her nose with soot from her compact.
This chimney sweeper looks a bit different to the film though because he's an Irish sweep, so he's got a top hat instead of a flat cap. And he's wearing a smart waistcoat and a blue shirt, because he's a blue collar worker. Around his neck is a neckerchief in a nice red shade which brings a bit of colour to the composition.
He's holding some sweeping essentials; his sweeps brush, a bucket for the soot and a length of rope. I'm not sure what the rope is for but it seems to be a popular piece of equipment.
So we know how lucky the sweep is, there is a lucky shamrock on his hat. Maybe you should give it a rub before choosing your lottery numbers.
In the sketch I haven't included hair, I thought I'd see how he looks and if he needs hair, I'll knit him some.
I don't see any issues with creating this tea cosy design, so I'm just going to enjoy the process. Wish me luck!
