French Birdcage Tea Cosy
I've come over all continental with the French country style birdcage tea cosy design.
I was actually inspired by the new wooden obelisks that I had bought for the garden and had painted white and - pop - the white birdcage came into my mind. A birdcage is sort of the right shape for a teapot and I think that white lines look so fresh.
It's nice to have a summery tea cosy for the summer months and I think most people (when they have finished their daily chores) spend the summer outside in their garden or in a park amongst flowers. I think a tea cosy with flowers brings the garden to teatimes.
I thought my birdcage would look good as a floral display, I have seen this done a lot and they always look so pretty. I have found a few examples of white cages being used in this way.
I thought I would knit the horizontal bars into the main cosy itself. I think anything sewn across the tea cosy reduces the stretch of the finished tea cosy which isn't helpful when you have a ball shaped teapot, plus you run the risk of burning your fingers. Then I plan to knit vertical bars separately and sew them on.
I'm thinking clematis for the flowers, but I might change my mind as I'm designing them. But I would like a big flower and some foliage too.
I know it's a birdcage, but at this stage I am thinking no bird, but I may include one if it helps the composition.
I don't foresee any issues with this tea cosy which is a nice way to start a project, but that might change too as it progresses.
