January is upon us already and I was shocked to see that the Chinese New Year is on the 22nd January and I wanted to create a Chinese New Year Rabbit tea cosy. Better get speedy with my knitting needles!!
The rabbit tea cosy is of a stylised rabbit in colourful shades and scalloped patterns. I thought it would be a lovely way to celebrate the Chinese New Year of the rabbit.
I thought it would be nice to make a mini sized tea cosy for a teapot for one, you know - the teapots that hold just one mug of tea or two cups. I thought then if someone in the family was born in the year of the rabbit, that they would have their own personalised tea cosy.
I'm undecided, but I thought that maybe the rabbit could be holding a red Chinese lantern in his front paws. Lanterns are iconically Chinese and red is considered a lucky colour, and it would be lovely to wish people luck for the coming year.
As well as Chinese New Year, I think the rabbit would also make a lovely Easter tea cosy. The Easter bunny is always a lovely theme at Easter and a cheery rabbit tea cosy would be less calorific than a chocolate one.
I think the Chinese rabbit will make a lovely tea cosy and I have an idea of how I can knit a scalloped pattern into the main cosy to make the cosy look more decorative and harder to make than it actually will be. Which is a good thing because time is against me on this one!
