It's holiday season and I'm feeling old fashioned glamping so I thought I'd design an ornate vardo tea cosy.
I love gypsy caravans and I'd love to spend the night in one all snug inside. I always imagine that the 'The Pedlar's Caravan' in the poem by by William Brighty Rands was a gypsy caravan. I think what I love about them is the beautiful patterns and paintings on the woodwork. Bright colours on black always look so striking.
So the main tea cosy will be the caravan or vardo, and all what they are called. There won't be a horse sadly and no steps, the spout or handle opening will be where the steps would be.
The main roof of the caravan will be green and will be curved, and running front to back and like the Peddler man this caravan will have 'chimney of tin, that the smoke comes through'.
The obvious challenge here is the shape of a teapot and the shape of a vardo. But I like a challenge and I have a idea how I can get the gypsy caravan look.
As will all things that don't sit on the 'floor', the caravan look as if it's on grass and the wheels will rest on the floor.
I thought it would be really lovely if a window was open. I thought it would look inviting and make you want to look in. Of course the window would be a challenge because as yet you can't get transparent yarn, so I might have to have a look through the re-cycling for clear, flat plastic for a window.
What is magical is I know that there is a couple who live in a gypsy caravan and often stay around this neck of the woods. How marvellous it must be to roam the countryside and stay in beautiful places? A wonderful slow pace of life that has limited impact on the climate and environment, sounds heavenly doesn't it?
