The Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World was a huge feat of engineering, and the Statue of Liber-tea tea cosy will be no less an engineering miracle. Ok maybe I have exaggerated a little, but I am wondering how that arm with the torch stays elevated.
The Statue of Liberty is so iconic, even just an impressionist sketch of her, and we get what is being portrayed in an instant. I thought it would be lovely to have the Statue of Liberty as a tea cosy, with an Americano flavour; it kind of makes me thing of the 1950's and that American dinner style.
So the main tea cosy part replaces the plinth, and instead of the statue's usual plinth, I have a nod towards the American flag. I know it's not a true representation of the flag, but it's enough to give you the American flavour.
Above this will be Liberty herself, holding a tablet in one arm and a torch in her other hand. It's the arm with the torch that I am most worried about, not only is the arm fully raised, but she also has extra weight because of the torch. In knitting terms this is a bit tricky because over time the arm could weaken and flop downwards.
I like that she's all one colour and it will make sewing up a little easier because the stitches will all blend in.
I thought it would be a lovely tea cosy for the American-loving Brits, and for Americans, she'd make a lovely decoration for Independence Day.
