One of the iconic landmarks in London is the Houses of Parliament where all the PM's gather to run the country. In our house, we love a bit of politicking, especially over a nice cupper. With a hot cup of tea, we can sort out the country's problems in a teatime.
With the general election happening next year I thought a Palace of Westminster tea cosy would be topical. It represents every party and is the hub of activity.
But it's not only for politics; the clock and Bin Ben are also important in the New Year celebrations every year, ringing in the new year and providing a landmark in the skyline for when the fireworks all go off.
But the building itself is a beautiful building architecturally. It's built to look older than it is, and is very detailed and intricate. I'm not going to be able to include that level of detail in the tea cosy. I shall include the detail that you can see when you look at the building from a distance.
The building is not teapot shaped, so I shall use artistic licence to create an impression of the Palace of Westminster. But the old Elizabeth Tower (formerly known as St Stephen's Tower) and the clock faces will be the main features that will stand out.
I think the trickiest part of this tea cosy will be the architecture and the detail. Because the building is all the same colour, I shall have to create the detail with stitches rather than colour or adding bits on. The short corner tower and the Elizabeth Tower will be knitted separately and sewn on.
I think another tricky part of this project is the time factor, It's nearly December and the pattern should be released before Christmas ideally so that it can be knitted by others in time for New Years, so I don't have a moment to loose! I had better crack on!
