It's that time of year when we are ready for a bit of romance. So I have been inspired to make a romantic style tea cosy, that I thought would be great for Valentines day but also for people celebrating their seventh wedding anniversary, which is Wool. Appropriately, the wool anniversary represents the warmth and cosiness you find each other; sentiments that are perfect for a love inspired tea cosy.
I think I have a bringing together of lots of inspirations in this tea cosy design. Firstly I was thinking that the cosy should have frilly bits. I think lace and frills always feel romantic. I guess because we associate lace and frills with traditional style wedding dresses. So at the bottom of the cosy, I have a frilly bit with what looks like a ribbon weaving through.
Then on top I have a couple of love hearts embracing. I love little love hearts with faces and characters, they are so sweet and ooze character. As well as faces, I shall knit them arms, so that they can embrace. So I'm thinking that that's what my loving couple will be like. Being love hearts, the 'people' on the top of the cosy could represent anyone.
Then lower down, I thought I'd have a baby love heart sucking a dummy. I thought it would look cute.
I thought I'd keep the colour pallet in pinks and reds. I think these are the shades we expect from romantic gestures and if you look at the greeting card stands for Valentines day cards, it's a sea of pinks and reds.
I wanted the tea cosy to have texture too. I think if love was a texture, it would be a bit billowy and not flat.
I think another influence of my design is Mr Kipling's French Fancies! I'm not sure how that inspiration got in there, but I do find a French Fancie exceedingly romantic - hahaha.
