Marilyn Monroe is such an iconic figure and so many pictures have been made of her, but I don't think she has had a tea cosy made in her likeness, so this will be a first.
I had two tea cosy ideas in mind, Marilyn Monroe was only one of those tea cosy inspirations and I was undecided which to knit next. So in the TeaCosyFolk Facebook help group I had a little poll running, and they voted for Marilyn. Top Choice!
When you think of Marilyn Monroe I think the main images that come to mind are the white dress blowing up and 'Happy Birthday Mr President', but I thought the former would work best for a tea cosy.
Get your Stylecraft White DK ready - We are going to be using lots of it! So the main part of the tea cosy will be white and then the skirt will blow out from here. I think the knitting for the skirts will have to be rather stiff to keep its shape and not just hang down. Her legs will come down the front of the tea cosy and then disappear under the front skirt.
Marilyn's body and head will be knitted separately and sewn to the top of the main cosy in the iconic pose. I'd like to give her red lips and false eyelashes to give her that glamourous look that she was so well known for having.
For me I think the tricky part is her hair, I think bobbles will be the order of the day to create those curls. It's rather a big hair do that does stand proud of her head. Maybe it's that air vent blowing her hair up a bit as well as her dress?
I'm going to enjoy creating this tea cosy of Marilyn Monroe, she's such a glamour-puss I hope I can do her justice.
