This is a bespoke number. A tea cosy for lady in Australia who loves to play the tuba. I think this tea cosy will be a blast!
I love a brass band so this tea cosy design is right up my street.
Now I know the illustrating pictures below are inaccurate because they don't have valves in the same place as the tuba that I was sent in a photo, but they do give you the feel of what I'm try to achieve.
The main part of the cosy will be the lady's body, and the tuba will be knitted and sew on into place. I have sketched in hands with digits, because I like the idea of the fingertips being on top of the valves as though she's actually playing.
I don't think that there will be any tricky bits really. With big items sewn on there is always the weight to think about. We don't want the cosy sliding around the teapot the moment you pick it up. So I shall add a few more rows of rib to give the cosy good grip.
Of course the bell of the tuba will need stiffening to keep the bell shape, but I have a cunning plan for that, so fingers crossed that it works out. Otherwise I shall have to think up another solution.
