I'm channelling autumn day with this tea cosy and a little bit of childhood nostalgia. I remember as a child loving conker season and coming home with bulging pockets filled to bursting with conkers. One street where I lived had a row of horse chestnuts and it was the prime location for monster conkers.
In the autumn the sunshine changes to a golden sunshine and the air starts to feel chilly, so the tea cosy design has a child, standing in his anorak coat with a woolly hat on to keep warm whilst playing outside. I have put mittens on the design but I might change this, I'm not sure if you can play conkers in mittens.
The child is holding up a conker that is hung from a string, that was always a dramatic time; trying to keep your nerve and hoping that your conker wouldn't explode on the next impact.
I have the child wearing trousers and you can see his shoes peeping out.
It's so lovely to be back knitting folk again, I love to imagine their back story and draw upon my own experiences, not only from my memories but also from people I know and meet. It's nice to see the characters grow as you knit, and I think if I knit what makes me smile, that it will make other people smile too.
So here we go, an autumnal tea cosy for folk who are bonkers about conkers!
