It's nearly haggis season, and with it comes the celebration of Burns Night. At the heart of Burns Night is the iconic dish known as haggis. A cute wee Highland creature that is small and elusive and very tasty, especially when served with a Terry's Chocolate Orange.
I was asked if I had a Haggis chocolate orange pattern for Burn's Night. I thought it was a lovely idea. Not a supermarket-looking haggis, but a cute creature type haggis.
It was so lovely to let my imagination run wild and I can't wait to create something that is just cuteness overload.
So I have sketched a small character, that has an unusual nose that looks like the end of a food haggis. It's the bit where the haggis skin is tied up, and it look a bit like the tied end of balloon.
I went full on Scottish, the haggis is playing the bag pipes whilst wearing a tam-o-shanter hat. Of course the tam-o-shanter is a lovely nod to one of Burns' poems.
I think that the little critter should have a woolly coat, because it does get cold up in the Highlands, so I thought I'd knit the main cosy in loopy stitch. It does make things look cute and cuddly.
I don't see any issues with this tea cosy other than the size of it. I'm not sure if there will be room on a small chocolate orange for this level of detail. Another issue is the time scale. It's a week into January and Burn's night is 25th of January, so it will have to be a quick turn-around.
