I was asked to design a Dressage Tea Cosy - crikey that's a tall order. I have to make a fat and round teapot look like a slim, sleek and elegant horse - Yikes!
I do love horses, they are such beautiful and graceful animals and it's amazing what they can be trained to do. I think the dressage tea cosy will be a popular tea cosy with horse lovers.
My design includes the horse and the rider. The main part of the tea cosy will be the ground and the horse's body. The spout and handle openings will have to be at the side otherwise you would end up getting the horses head or tail in the stream of the pouring tea, and that wouldn't do.
The horse's head legs and tail will be individually knitted and sewn on. I do like the pointiness of the horse and the angle they hold their head and ears at. For my horse to look like a dressage horse it will need to carry its head correctly.
The rider on top is essentially a doll that will be made and sewn to the top of the cosy. I'm not going to get too bogged down in saddles, straps and bridles. I shall give enough straps to create an impression.
I think most of this tea cosy is quite tricky. I think the fat nature of teapots will make it difficult to make this horse look slim and elegant, but I'm willing to give it a try. At least there is not a hairy mane because the mane will be braided. I think I shall also knit the tail as one piece and no strands because I want it to look sleek, and knitted strands tend to look a bit more wild and scruffy.
