Not everyone revels in the festive frenzy of Christmas. The anti-Christmas crowd often finds solace in steering clear of the tinsel and tunes, opting instead for a quieter and less merry holiday, a "Bah Humbug" refrain amidst the merry-Christmassers.
Inspired by 'A Christmas Carol' by Charles Dickens and his main character, Mr Ebenezer Scrooge, a miserable, miserly, christmas-skeptic sole who uses the phrase, 'Bah Humbug' as a dismissive word for anything festive.
With this in mind, I have sketched a Victorian looking man with a top hat, under which is a grumpy looking, jowly face. I have given him spectacles, because he's old and old people tend to have poorer eyesight and are in need of specs, I think they add to his rather sinister appearance. I hope to use wire glasses, Cello Express sell them ready made in an assortment of metals.
I thought if he was holding one side of his glasses, it would make him look like he couldn't believe his eyes and was needing to adjust his glasses for a clearer look, a bit like my husband does when I have bought more yarn.
I thought it would be fun with his shirt to give him black and white stripes like a humbug sweet, and a play on the phrase. Having read the book and loving that most of our Christmas traditions and ideas originate from it, I'm really looking forward to creating this tea cosy.
The book says, "Dark was cheap and Scrouge liked it", and I feel that he would also like tea cosies for their money saving and heat retaining properties. I like to think that he would approve.
