Arachnophobes might want to look away now because TeaCosyFolk's next tea cosy is going to be of the Redknee Tarantula.
Now I know it might feel a bit early to be thinking of Halloween, but my diary is jam packed and I'm worried that if I don't make a Halloween cosy soon, that the time will run away and I will have missed the event. So I thought I'd get cracking.
Now I have had feedback that people don't like spiders, and for me, that is kind of the point. It's a Halloween tea cosy, it's supposed to be a bit scary, and just for the record, I don't like spiders either. It's their eight scampery legs, and why do they need eight eyes? One to keep an eye on each leg I suppose. Creepy!
Now if you can bring yourself to look at the images below, I have some photos of tarantula's. The one I have sketched is based on the redknee tarantula, but if you look it doesn't really look red, it's more of a coppery orange. I chose the redknee because I think when most people think of a tarantula, that's the one they have in mind.
My only concern about the build is his abdomen. That big derriere sticking out the back of him. It looks about the same size as the section that his legs spring from. Having an abdomen this size would make the tea cosy very imbalanced and the weight might cause the tea cosy to slide around the teapot, which wouldn't be helpful in use. So I need to bear this in mind.
I know I said I didn't like spiders, but I am warming to this tarantula (Not that I want one as a pet or anything) but it is a cute woolly little fella and the two predominant eyes at the front do give him a kind of cute expression. I do think he will be fun and scary, can't wait to see people's faces. Maybe they won't want tea after all?
