Animated Tea Cosy

Description

It was brought to my attention recently that it was 250 years this year, that Captain James Cook discovered the East coast of Australia. We thought it would be a fitting tribute to celebrate this occasion in ture tea cosy style with a Captain James Cook tea cosy, depicting the great man himself.

The tea cosy of Captain James Cook has him in his full finery of dark blue and cream, his frilly collar shirt and a three corner hat. In his hand he has the ships charts and a telescope. The telescope is strengthened with a cotton bud to prevent it drooping.

Around the back of him as a nod to his accomplishments of discovering Australia, there is an adorable wallaby.

This is a mammoth knitting pattern and certainly not for the faint hearted. If you love a knitting challenge, this one is a great project. I suppose the trickiest part is knitting from two needle simultaneously to join the work, there are photos to show you, and it is only two rows that requires this. There is also knitting to the the back of a stitch from a previous row, but again a handy photo give you a good look at whats happening. The buttons on the front lapels are knitted bobbles, it did save on a lot of sewing buttons on afterwards, but then you have got the fiddle of knitting bobbles; but they do look the part.

It's a lovely tea cosy to knit, lots of interesting parts that keep you on your toes and he does look amazing when he all comes together. The wallaby is so sweet and easy to make, I can imagine he will be popping up on other occasions and not just for the tea cosy - Children will really enjoy this little character.

Captain James Cook is celebrating 250th anniversary of when he discovered the East coast of Australia - Hot cuppa's all round!
