Up in the Air - Hot Air Balloon Cushion and Knitting Pattern

The Hot Air Balloon Cushion was designed for the Simply Knitting Magazine issue 203 which went on sale on the 8th September 2020.

I love hot air balloons and I particularly like the vintage look; the sort that Phileas Fogg set off in on his trip around the world in 80 days. I love the old fashioned colours and the big swags on the balloon.

The hot air balloon cushion is based on the vintage style of balloon with a wicker basket and swags on the balloon. At the top of the swags are rosette like circles to finish off the look.

Knitted in chunky wool it's a quick growing project and looks great with its chunky, luxuriously plump stitches. The balloon is worked from the bottom up in one main piece and the swags and buttons are appliqued on after.

The up in the air hot air balloon cushion can be knitted in any colour combination, I have knitted one in pink as an example of how it would look.

The perfect cushion for people with their head in the clouds or for people who like to drift away on the breeze.
