Union Jack Tea Cosy and Knitting Pattern

The Union Jack tea cosy was designed for the Simply Knitting Magazine issue 237 which went on sale on the 20th April 2023.

A Coronation tea cosy fit for Royal-tea! I was asked to design a celebratory tea cosy for the King's Coronation and of course on any Royal occasion we like to hang out the flags. I thought a Union Jack tea cosy would be perfect for the celebrations. But it needed to be more for such a Royal occasion that we may never witness again, so I blinged it up golden bobbles and a finial loop.

The main part of the cosy is the same on both sides and features the Union Jack flag in all its red, white and blue glory. The pattern is worked in intarsia from a knitting chart.

The bobbles are big and chunky and look exuberant and give it a steadfast appearance. I love the way the golden colour makes the pattern of the flag pop.

The ball and hoop on the top of the cosy are knitted separately and sewn on top. The added height gives this cosy more status and the loop is perfect for hanging up the cosy when it's not in use.

It's a lovely cosy and doesn't take too long to knit so it's easy to knit one up in time for the coronation, or any other time you need to sport a Union Jack.

The perfect union of tea cosy and teapot and just in time for The King's coronation.
