Statue of Liberty Tea Cosy Knitting Pattern

The Statue of Liberty is such an iconic monument in America and I wanted to create a lady of Liberty for a teapot as a knitted tribute to her. So the Statue of Liberty tea cosy is the lady herself on the top of the cosy, holding forth her torch and holding the tablet.

Her robes are knitted separately and draped around her. On her head is her crown with the seven spikes that represent the seven seas and the seven continents.

Like the real Statue of Liberty there is structural engineering going on in the inside. The elevated arm and the crown spikes are supported with bamboo skewers to help them maintain their shape. This of course means that the tea cosy can't be machine washed.

Below her is an impression of the American flag. Featuring stars as knitted bobbles and stripes.

I do wonder if she'd look a little happier if she was holding a teapot rather than that torch.

She's a wonderful tea cosy for people who love America and Tea.

The Statue of Liber-tea, after holding that torch aloft all day she needs a hot brew.
