Description

The Cocktail Party Tea Cosy was designed for the Simply Knitting Magazine issue 176 which went on sale on the 2nd August 2018.

Cocktail’s in jam jars is so old hat, cocktails in mini teapots is where its at! But its not a new idea, the old lady in the caravan in Dickens’s tale of The Old Curiosity Shop kept gin in her teapot.

I thought it would be an unusual way to serve cocktails at a cocktail party or to funk up a tea party and to make it look like a cocktail party. It's just fun and summery and great for stash busting because you can use any colour of DK yarn that you have to hand.

I used a loose cable pattern for the main tea cosy to make the main part of the cosy look like cut glass. If you are new to cables, this is an easy pattern to start with because there aren’t make cable rows.

The cocktail requires one bamboo needle for construction of the straw and parasol. Bamboo needles are great for construction because they are easy to cut and are cheap to buy, especially if you buy online or at charity shops. One pair of needles will make 2 cocktail tea cosies.

I really love the fruit slice and the parasol, they make the cocktail feel real. The lemon lice could be any of the citrus fruits – lime, orange, pink grapefruit perhaps. The cherry could be an olive, a grape, physalis, a lychee or any small round fruit.

I think any Barbie would love a knitted parasol.

The Cocktail Party Tea Cosy knitting pattern will be available to buy from the TeaCosyFolk website from the 2th February 2019, in the meanwhile you can buy past copies of Simply Knitting if you missed the pattern when it was first published.

Add a tropical twist to your next tea party with a cocktail style tea cosies.
