Angler Fish Tea Cosy and Knitting Pattern

The Angler Fish tea cosy was designed for the Simply Knitting Magazine issue 241 which went on sale on the 10th August 2023.

Down in the depths of the ocean, a scarily horrifying fish lurks trying to catch unsuspecting fishes for his dinner. I thought that an angler fish tea cosy would make a spooky tea cosy that would be great for Halloween. This has got to be one of the creepiest looking fish with all it's teeth and bobbly eyes, it is like something from a horror film.

He has a lore dangling down on his head that he dangles just above his jaws, and when a smaller fish is tricked into thinking the lore is a tasty morsel to eat, he himself becomes the tasty morsel.

I have designed the angler fish in what I thought looked to be spooky looking colours. The main part of the cosy is knitted in a lumpy stitch that adds to his ugliness.

The fins and tail are knitted separately and sewn on afterwards.

It was great fun to knit something ugly and a bit spine chilling. And I love the way that most of this fish is his mouth with those menacing looking teeth.

Perfect for when your angling for a hot cup of tea.

• fits a medium sized teapot that holds 6 to 8 cups or 2 pints
