Description

The World War2 Evacuee tea cosy commemorates the evacuation in World War II of children from cities to the countryside. The poor little darlings were parted from their parents and sent by train to live out the war in less dangerous parts of the country.

This tea cosy can be knitted to make a girl evacuee (Tea-na) or a boy evacuee (An-tea-ney). The simple change to the hat determines if the evacuee is a boy or a girl.

The children are wearing a burgundy duffle coat, a red hat and they have with them their gas masks, labels, suitcases and teddy bears.

It's a charming tea cosy and reminds us of by gone days.

I love social history and I think the stories of evacuees of the time are so touching. They make me think of the beautiful films 'Carrie's War' and 'Goodnight Mister Tom'.

If you are ordering a ready knitted World War Two Evacuee tea cosy, please email to say if you would like a boy or a girl.

As part of the Evacuation in World War II, you must accommodate one of these children into your homes.

This Tea Cosy:

  • is made from double thickness yarn for extra insulation
  • has a removable hat which can be casually hung on the spout
  • fits a medium sized teapot that holds 6 to 8 cups or 2 pints
