Description

The Harpist tea cosy was a tea cosy knitting pattern request from a lady who plays the harp, who wanted a tea cosy of herself.

Harps are such unusual instruments, and harpists always look very calming and sophisocated. Or maybe that's the sounds from the harp that emanates the sounds so elegant and peaceful? I needed to capture this magic into the tea cosy design.

The lady who the tea cosy was for sent me a photo of herself playing and she wore a very beautiful, flowing, pink dress. I have tried to re-envisage this in the main cosy with a very billowy-looking hemline.

The harp itself is stiffened with Funky Foam to keep it ridged and upright, and then the strings of the harp are sewn inside the frame of the harp.

The harpist is wearing spectacles, and the lens of the glasses are transparent buttons with knitted frames.

Her hands are knitted with individual digits. As a harpist, your fingers are crucial for plucking the strings, so it was important to give the tea cosy fingers. The fingers are knitting with a cast-on and cast-off technique, and there is a TeaCosyFolk Youtube Help Video to show you have to knit the hands, and the link to the video is also included in the knitting pattern.

When you watch the product video below you will hear harp music that is being played by the lady who requested the tea cosy to be made. It does feel joyful that both the art of the harpist and the craft of knitting have been combined in this tea cosy and in the video.

The Harpist tea cosy is a wonderful tea cosy that will keep your tea nice and hot, and that's music to anyone's ears!

Pouring a nice brew, how wonderfully melodic.
