Description

Queen Elizabeth the First, also known as the Virgin Queen, daughter of Henry the 8th and the ruler of what is known the golden age. How marvelous to be asked to knit a lady with such prestige. I was asked if I'd design a Queen Elizabeth I tea cosy based on the Ditchley portrait, a very famous portrait of the Queen stood on a map of the world. I love a bit of history so I was delighted to take up the challenge.

The main part of the dress in knitted in the vintage style tea cosy pattern to give a really billowy look to the skirts of her dress. At the top she has a flounce. From the flounce upwards the knitting has a diamond pattern and where the diamonds cross is a spot.

Her arms have hanging sleeves that hang down as far as her skirts, and her bodice has a ruff and a standing collar.

Her hair is up in a bun and is adorned with flowers and pearls.

She is a big project to knit and she does take longer to make than your average tea cosy, but that's hardly surprising, she's was one of the richest monarchs of the time.

The tea cosy pattern of the Virgin Queen also comes with a pattern for legs and bloomers, in case you'd like to make her as a doll.

She's amazing character to make and looks stunning. There are video tutorials available on Youtube to show you how to knit the vintage skirts and the Diamond pattern. The links to the tutorials are included in the pattern.

Celebrating the Golden age of hot tea.
